Privacy Policy

1. Data you enter into the tools

Most tools never send what you type, paste or upload anywhere.

Converters, formatters, generators, encoders, the hash and JWT tools and the rest run in your web browser with client-side JavaScript. Your input is processed on your device and is never sent to our servers or to Google Analytics. The network tools in the next section are the exception.

2. Network tools

A browser cannot query someone else's DNS resolver, open a WHOIS connection or read another site's response headers, so seven tools send your input to our API at webdevutility.com/api, which runs on Cloudflare Workers:

  • DNS Propagation Checker: the domain and record type go to our API, which asks 12 public DNS resolvers (such as Google, Cloudflare and OpenDNS) for the record.
  • WHOIS Lookup: the domain or IP address goes to our API, which queries the responsible RDAP or WHOIS registry server.
  • Domain IP Lookup: the domain goes to our API, which asks a public DNS resolver (Cloudflare, or Google if Cloudflare cannot be reached) for its addresses. The API then does a reverse DNS lookup for each address and sends it to rdap.org, a third-party service that forwards the request to the responsible regional internet registry.
  • Redirect Checker and Website Down Checker: the URL goes to our API, which requests it from the target site. That site's server logs will show a request with a user agent that identifies WebDevUtility.
  • Iframe Checker: the URL, and the site you want to embed it on if you enter one, go to our API, which requests the URL from the target site in the same way. The live preview then loads that page in a frame directly from your browser, so the target site receives a normal visit from you, with your IP address.
  • What Is My IP: our API reads your IP address, approximate location, network and connection details from the request your browser makes. To show IPv4 and IPv6 separately, your browser also contacts ipify, a third-party service.

The API does not save your input or the results. Cloudflare keeps short-lived request logs for it, which include the requested address (so the domain or URL you checked) and can include your IP address. We use these logs only to fix errors, and Cloudflare deletes them automatically after a few days. Your IP address is also used to limit each visitor to 10 lookups per minute.

3. Cookies & Local Storage

We use Google Analytics 4, which sets first-party cookies (_ga and _ga_<ID>) to count visits and tell new visitors from returning ones. We do not use advertising cookies and we do not sell data.

Some tools also use your browser's local storage for functional purposes, such as remembering the last option you picked. That data stays in your browser and is never sent to us.

4. Analytics

Google Analytics 4 records usage information such as the pages you visit, the referring site, your approximate location, and your device and browser type. We use it to see which tools are used and to improve the site. It does not receive the content you enter into any tool. Google describes what it collects in its Privacy Policy, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies for this site.

5. Third-Party Links

Our website may contain links to designated third-party websites. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please note that they have their own privacy policies and that we do not accept any responsibility or liability for these policies.
